"New buildings could be seen as potential global carbon sinks. Just as we have extracted iron ore for steel, limestone and, above all, fossil fuels from ever deeper holes in the earth over the last few centuries, filling up and heating up the atmosphere in the process in order to place structures weighing tonnes on the earth, we must reverse this process in this century. Only what has been taken out of the air and binds CO2 in wood for a long time will be built. Wood does not grow after concrete. But when the trees become scarce, just under half of the wood harvested will be burnt. If the energy transition is cleverly linked to the construction sector, there will be enough heating energy and enough building material available. And a final argument in favour of more wooden boards in front of the head: it is much healthier for the occupants. The indoor climate, the air, no odour, you can feel that when you enter a wooden house. It breathes for you. A real win-win. And we will still need the sand.
